The Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun has disclosed that more technical colleges would be established to combat out of school children.

Lagos State is set to establish additional Government Technical Colleges across its 20 Local Government Areas to address the rising number of out-of-school children and provide opportunities for young people.

Alli-Balogun, announced this during the 2024 Graduation Ceremony for Technical College Students. He emphasized that the current 6-3-3-4 education system requires a more robust technical education component to meet the demands of today’s rapidly evolving technological and economic landscape.

Alli-Balogun acknowledged that the existing five Government Technical Colleges, established over 40 years ago, are insufficient to meet the growing demand for skilled workers.

He highlighted the importance of technical education in driving economic growth and development, aligning with the goals of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S PLUS Agenda.

The Commissioner urged the over 2,000 graduates to utilize their newly acquired skills and knowledge to contribute positively to society.

He encouraged them to dream big and strive for excellence in their chosen fields.

Alli-Balogun commended the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB) for its dedication to providing high-quality technical and vocational education to the state’s youth.
