Chairperson of Lagos State Female Football Development Committee, Raliat Abdulsalam is elated by the overwhelming success of the recent Mentorship/Training Program for Girls in Football.

Over 500 young players from various Lagos communities convened at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, for the inspiring event.

Abdulsalam expressed her enthusiasm, stating the program has significantly empowered and educated the young participants.

She emphasized the initiative’s continuity, highlighting upcoming inter-school competitions and the committee’s focus on building a formidable team for the Lagos FA.

“Our committee identified a gap in female football development,” Abdulsalam explained.

“Despite global success stories, there was a dearth of opportunities for young girls in Lagos. We aim to cultivate talent from a young age and provide comprehensive support, including mentorship, training, and competitive platforms.”

She further elaborated, “This is just the beginning. We plan regular mentorship sessions, academic support, and competitive leagues to create a strong foundation for these girls.

“Our goal is to develop a winning team for Lagos FA and inspire more girls to pursue football careers.”

Abdulsalam also expressed optimism about potential sponsorships.

“The growing prominence of women’s football worldwide has attracted attention from sponsors.

“We are actively seeking partnerships to sustain and expand our programs.”

Nigeria legendary goalkeeper, Ann Chiejine was on hand to lecture the young lads on staying focused and disciplined to their career in order to reach the top, while high ranking coach, Diana Asak also shared her experiences in the league and how she combined her education with her career to reach the top.

The girls were also educated on having financial literacy from a young age while not neglecting their educational career.
