A suspect identified as Dosu Sunday is under prosecution for stealing the sum of N3,531,300 at a filling station, according to the police in Lagos.

Sunday, an employee at NNPC station in Badagry, is on trial on two-count charge of stealing and forgery.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Adeosun, told the Badagry Magistrates’ Court that the accused commited the offence in May and June 2024 at Oloko, Seme, Badagry Expressway, where the station is situated.

Adosun said, “The defendant stole the sum of N3, 531,300, property of one Alhaji Ganiu Adelani, the complainant. He also forged the filling station’s POS receipt for the same amount, knowing that it was fake.

“Having known that the management was aware of this, he ran away from the station but he was caught at a jetty in Iya-Afin community when trying to catch a boat.

“He was handed over to the police for prosecution.

“The offences contravened Sections 287 and 363 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015,” the prosecutor relayed.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya, presiding over the case, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.

Adekomaiya said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and with evidence of tax clearance from the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned till September 18.
