Court Remands Two For Stealing

The Magistrates’ Court in Badagry has remanded two compatriots from Benin Republic in prison for assault and theft.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Edet Ekpe, the lawbreakers assaulted a lady and stole from her at Imeke in Badagry, Lagos on May 15 at about 12.10pm.

The prosecutor told the court that the gang stole a bag containing the sum of N276,500 belonging to one Chinyere Onwuka, a POS operator.

“They pushed the complainant from a motorcycle after stealing her bag, which contained N276,500. She sustained injuries all over her body.

“The suspects conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.

“They are trans-border robbers from the Republic of Benin. They came to Imeke on a motorcycle mainly to steal.

Ekpe informed that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 411, 287, 297 and 168 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni, presiding over the pending case, adjourned the hearing until 18 July for mention.
