Lagosians have expressed their pleasure to tap into the newly introduced engagement application to channel their complaints to the government.

Our correspondent was on the street to interviewed some residents on the App but noticed that many knew nothing about it.

However, those who spoke to Echonews we’re excited that the App, Citizens Gate 2.0 would go a long way in accessing government in real time.

According to one Mr. Nuru Agbaje, there are many complaints especially about the overzealous was of LASTMA officials, which Lagosians are willing to report but they do not know how and where to do so

With the introduction of an application by government to engage the residents, I think government is ready to help the citizens, he said.

Meanwhile the Office of Civic Engagement has organised a one-day sensitisation programme for Special Advisers, Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries of various Ministries, Agencies and Departments (MDAs) across the State.

In her address at the event held recently at the Adeyemi-BeroAuditorium, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, the Special Adviser to Mr. Governor on Civic Engagement, Princess Aderemi Adebowalesaid in order to have an all-inclusive government in the state, a conscious effort is being made to establish, deepen and sustain the government mode of engagement and communication with various stakeholders hence the need for a more interactive Lagos State Citizens Gate 2.0 App.

She added that the implementation of the Citizens’ Gate 2.0 platform in all MDAs in Lagos State is a crucial step towards promoting transparency, accountability and citizen engagement in government.

The Special Adviser explained further that it is expected that, over time, active and ongoing usage of the citizens’ gate will make it easier for citizens to participate in dialogue and decision-making processes alongside the state government.

While emphasising the role of Special Advisers, Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries, Aderemi said that as Chief Executives and Accounting Officers of various MDAs, it is expected of them to monitor the activities at the backend to ensure cases being logged are given prompt attention.

“The platform is built to ensure easy monitoring of all activities as they unfold on the platform, you can further investigate tickets generated which were not effectively and efficiently addressed within the shortest time, while tracking and enforcing government performance”, she said

Aderemi added that, commendably, the Lagos State government has blazed the trail in bringing governance to the people via mobile phones and the internet through the deployment of the Citizen’s Gate 2.0 platform, a web and app-based e-governance channel that enables access to and delivery of public goods.`
