Councillors highlight their plans for residents

The newly elected councillors in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government have highlighted what they plan to do for their wards aside from their legislative and oversight functions.

Some of the councillors spoke to ECHONEWS on their plans after holding their first legislative session during which the members especially the first-timers were trained on the standing order and rules of the House.

At the session, the majority leader of the House, Hon. Azeez Jaiyeola explained the procedure of the House in detail to intimate both the new and re-elected councillors with the rules and activities of the House.

The clerk of the House also conveyed a letter of the council chairman of Oshodi-Isolo, Otunba Kehinde Oloyede, notifying the House about the appointment of the chief of staff and a senior special assistant (SSA) on general matters.

The sitting, which was an interactive session, was adjourned till August 24, 2021, as council leader, Hon. Rasheed Obasa promised to set up committees to handle various sectors.

Speaking on their plans, the councillor representing Afariogun ward, Hon. Wasiu Faluade promised to intervene in the security of Afariogun Primary School to prevent it from being further destroyed by hoodlums.

He said other challenges and needs of the people in his ward would be taken into consideration for proper resolutions.

Also explaining what she plans to do for her ward, the first time councillor representing Ewu ward, Hon. Ige Adega stated that she would execute personal projects that will focus on empowering youths, widows and the less privileged.

As part of the legislative oversight function, the councillor of Igbehinadun ward, who is the majority leader, Hon. Azeez Jaiyeola disclosed that the legislative arm will visit all the Primary Healthcare (PHC) Centers, inner roads across the wards in Oshodi to ascertain the condition and to seek urgent solutions from the council chairman.

He hinted that bills that will impact positively on the lives of the community members will be passed to actualise development.
