The two-week training was organised by Auxillium organisation and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Oshodi-Isolo Local Government for girls between 12 and 18 years to educate them on the concept of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.

The programme focused on the unique creativity and capability of participants and moulded them to express their talents through project designs and to learn the importance of teamwork to help build their dreams.

Speaking to ECHONEWS, a trainee, Khadijat Lawal said it was her first time of attending a training that boosted her competence and confidence.

Her words: “This is my first time of attending training and it was a very interesting experience for me. I am bold to say that I can build the solar cooking equipment, a project taught through the help of our team leader, Mrs. Sophiyat Sadiq who is an inspiring person. Although I was a novice and shy, she helped to boost my competence and I have chosen her as my biggest role model.”

Yetunde AdulRahman said: “Regards the teachings imparted, the knowledge acquired has opened my eyes to science project development in the aspect of using disk and other materials to build a motor car that weighs about 3gms and how we can use scrap items to invent household equipment.”

Haolat Lawal said: “It was an eventful experience that drilled us from teaching to practical. Many of us were novice in the teachings but we got blended into the training as the assimilation rate increased.”

ECHONEWS gathered that the participants would be given a follow-up teaching through a competition that would be initiated during every holiday to keep their creative minds alive.
