Motorists beat gridlock in second phase of Oshodi-Apapa Expressway grading
By Edith Igbokwe
Commuters tried to avoid the gridlock on the highway as Oshodi-Apapa Expressway service lane has been barricaded to pave way for the second grading of the road.
Since the exercise commenced last week, the service lane has been blocked from Iyana Isolo to DHL Bridge, Charity Oshodi, causing traffic congestion as motorists heading to Oshodi divert their route to Osolo way to link 7/8 Airport Road Junction to connect back to Oshodi axis.
The diversion of vehicles to Osolo Way has been causing heavy traffic jams on the axis, making commuters spend more time on the road than necessary.
Instead of spending 10 to 15 minutes driving from Osolo way to 7/8 Junction, commuters now spend between 45 minutes and one hour.
While passengers complained of delayed time scheduled for office, business and appointments, the drivers complained of shortage in their incomes.
They, therefore, appealed to the contractor handling the project to hasten the work.
