The executive chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area, Hon. Monsuru Bello (Obe), has rolled out 4,000 tubers of yams, 1,000 crates of eggs,1,000 loaves of bread and 100 bags of rice as relief packages to the indigents in the community to ease them of hunger in this emergency period of covid-19.

The Community Development Committee (CDC), which set an initiative last week tagged: “Covid-19 Community Care”, also complemented the government’s effort by distributing 1100 packs of food items which contained beans, noodles and bread to the needy in the community.

The council chairman handed over the food items to the CDC chairman to be given to the 110 CDAs in the local government, as the CDC has created the platform with all the CDA chairmen to identify 30 names of indigents in their community to be reached out to.

Each CDA was given a package containing 20 packs of the chairman’s yam and egg with 10packs of the CDC’s beans and other items.

Speaking on the gesture, the council chairman said said he chose yam and egg because he wanted to have food with different components which could complement each other and give good nutrients to people.

Obe added that the initiative is to support the state government who has started the good move by giving 100 bags of rice.

His words: “We know the food can’t reach everybody looking at our population compare to the items available. We want to touch our community at this time and our target is the indigents, the vulnerable who can’t afford food in the community.

“We have already created structure through the CDC to the CDA chairmen to identify the set of people in real need in their communities and this will give us the platforms to really touch people who really belong to our local government.

Also, some polygamous families who are in need have been identified in the community; these are people and others we are reaching out to with the rice.”

He therefore charged people to cooperate with the government, saying this period is not to make noise but to be calm.

He advised those who did not benefit from the first phase to be calm and wait for the right moment to reach them.

The CDC chairman, Prince Jelili Atiku, in his words appreciated the council chairman for his prompt response to the cry of the people in the community, promising that the CDC Care Committee would follow up the distribution to ensure it got to all the communities and people who were actually in need of it.

While receiving the food items, one of the beneficiaries at Igala Estate CDA, Alhaji Abdulrasheed Olayiwola Baruwa, appreciated the council chairman for the good gesture.

Also, Chairman of Kajola CDA, Prince Henri Iyke, commended the government for doing the best at this time with a token for the needy in the community.

Gloryland CDA chairman, Mr. Joseph Abiola, also appreciated God and the chairman for saving people from hunger, urging citizens to desist from negative criticisms on the government and cooperate with the government.
