Stay at home, organisers tell footballers

The organisers of Super Sunday League and Ogundele Football League have told footballers of clubs participating in the league to stay at home until the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown is over.

Although the organisers said they were not happy with the instruction, they had to follow the government’s directive to save lives of the players, spectators and coaches.

The main organiser of the Super Sunday league, Tunde Al-maroof, in a chat with ECHONEWS, said: “We called the representatives of each club to a meeting and told them about the consequences of going ahead with matches and that lives remain our priority.

At this point in time, the best thing to do is to stay at home and avoid close contact. The representatives of the clubs agreed and the matches have been suspended to avoid spreading of the deadly coronavirus.”

The Organiser of Ogundele Football League also corroborated what Al-maroof said by saying: “I think that’s the best thing to do, we can’t afford to put lives at risk by going ahead with matches despite the danger that lies ahead.”
