The Lagos State Government has been urged to provide essential support to the Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS) ahead of its annual Carnival.
This appeal came from His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Shotobi, the First Permanent Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs and the Ayangbure of Ikorodu Kingdom, as well as Asiwaju Akeem Rotimi Erogbogbo, the Chairman of IKODASS.
They made this plea during the ‘Walk for Fitness’ event that marked the commencement of the 32nd edition of the festival, scheduled to officially run from November 11th to 18th, 2023.
The ‘Walk for Fitness,’ themed ‘Persevere,’ garnered a significant turnout and symbolized the festival’s kickoff.
The procession, led by IKODASS Chairman, followed a route from the Ikorodu Town Hall through various key locations, culminating at the Ayangbure palace, where the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Shotobi, warmly welcomed the participating residents.
Asiwaju Erogbogbo emphasized the importance of exercise for health, underlining that relying solely on medication is not sufficient.
He stressed, “If your lifestyle does not include what we are doing today, you are about to kill yourself.” This annual walk serves as a reminder to the people of Ikorodu about the significance of regular exercise.
Furthermore, Erogbogbo announced the upcoming 32nd Ikorodu – Oga Festival, an eight-day extravaganza commencing on November 11, with this fitness walk being just the starting point.
He expressed confidence that this year’s festival will be remarkable, assuring the community that they are well-prepared for a spectacular event.
The IKODASS Chairman extended a message of hope to the people, urging them not to lose faith in the face of the current economic challenges in the country.
He acknowledged the difficulties but encouraged perseverance and the need for change in the nation. This event, themed ‘Persevere,’ was a testament to the community’s resilience in challenging times.
