Team Lagos have been handed a huge setback following the disqualification of two athletes after failing the doping test conducted by the National Sport Commission (NSC).

Kareem Shukurat who was supposed to represent Team Lagos in the Kickboxing category and Animashahun Sofia in the Para weightlifting category have been sent packing from the National Sport Festival by the NSC after failing the required doping test done before the start of the multi sport competition.

The Director General (DG) of the NSC, Bukola Olopade disclosed the reasons why the doping test is a must which is to ensure Nigeria’s sport are protected ahead of both domestic and international competitions.

“We are happy now that the National antidoping law has finally been passed by our Sports loving President, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the ripple effect of such a landmark fear must swiftly be felt in our Sports starting with the current Sports Festival.”
