2025 AFCON: Osimhen Set Sight On Surpassing Yekini’s Eagles Record

By Saheed Afolabi (Live In Morocco)
Nigeria clinical forward, Victor Osimhen is optimistic of surpassing ex international, Late Rashidi Yekini record of the national team highest goal scorer.
Yekini holds the all time highest goal scorer record with 37 goals while Osimhen is two goal shy of equalling the record of the Nigeria legend.
The 27 year old striker netted against Algeria to take his tally in the AFCON to four goals and provided an influential assist to give the Super Eagles a two nill victory in the quarter final of the AFCON against Algeria.
Osimhen who now has scored 35 goals in 50 appearances for Nigeria said he’s not under pressure to equal or surpass Yekini’s record but his main focus is to win the AFCON in Morocco.
“Not at all. It doesn’t matter if I equal the record or surpass it. Yekini is the best striker Nigeria has ever produced. I just want to win something for my country and I am happy that with my team mates, I’m on that path.”
Osimhen made his debut for Nigeria in June 10 2017 in a two goal defeat to South Africa in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers.
The lanky striker scored his first goal for Nigeria in the 2-2 draw against Ukraine (Friendly game) on September 10 2019.
