2025 AFCON: Ndidi Backs Chelle For Continuity

By Saheed Afolabi
Nigeria skipper, Wilfred Ndidi has thrown his weight behind coach, Eric Chelle to continue as the national team gaffer after the Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON).

Chelle contract will expire after the AFCON but his attractive style of play has endeared him to Nigeria fans who clamour for his contract renewal to stabilize the team.

Ndidi urges the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) not to sack Chelle due to the tremendous improvement he brought into the Eagles.

The Nigeria captain understands that the French-Malian manager always request for the players to be on top of their game as he doesn’t joke with his priorities on the job.

“I want us to keep the coach. He has done a tremendous job and we should be focused on continuity at this point,” Ndidi said at the prematch Press Conference at the Mohammed V Stadium, Casablanca.

“He is so demanding. I’ve never seen a coach as demanding as him, not just on the field but off it, even down to how we eat.

“He’s a nice guy and connects with his players, but when it’s time for the job, he doesn’t joke with it.”

Nigeria will clash with Egypt in the losers final (Third place) game at the Mohammed V Stadium, Casablanca on Saturday, January 17 by 5pm.
