By Saheed Afolabi
The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) have appointed Moroccan referee, Jalal Jayed to take charge of the 2025 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) third place game between Nigeria and Egypt at the Mohammed V Stadium, Casablanca.

Jayed will be assisted by his fellow compatriots, Zakaria Brinsi (Assistant Referee 1) and Akarkad Mostafa (Assistant Referee 2).

Hassani Khalil from Tunisia will be the Assistant Referee 3, while the fourth official, Peter Kamaku of Kenya will handle the substitution from both teams.

Algeria’s Lahlou Benbraham will be in charge of VAR, Haythem Guirat of Tunisia will be assistant VAR 1, Morocco’s Hamza El Fariq will serve as assistant VAR 2 while the referee assessor is Sinko Zeli from Cote d’Ivoire.

Three time champions, Nigeria and record seven-time winners, Egypt both suffered semi-final defeats against Morocco and Senegal while they miss out on the final of the tournament.

The third place match now presents both teams with an opportunity to salvage pride and conclude their campaign on a high note.

With national pride, valuable ranking points, and crucial momentum on the line, this bronze-medal clash is expected to be fiercely contested rather than a mere formality.
