2024 NSF: Team Lagos Wins Ten Medals In Weightlifting

Team Lagos State weightlifting contingent showcased a fantastic performance at the Gateway Games 2024, National Sports Festival in Ogun State with a remarkable 10-medal haul.

The dominant display saw Lagos secure three gold, four silver, and three bronze medals, thanks to the exceptional efforts of seven dedicated athletes.

The gold rush for Lagos was spearheaded by Olarinoye Ronke in the Women’s 45kg category, who snatched gold in her event and added a bronze in the Clean & Jerk, culminating in a total lift of 140kg.

Didih Onome Omolola delivered an outstanding performance in the Women’s 55kg category, clinching two gold medals and a silver with an impressive 93kg Snatch, 112kg Clean & Jerk, and a formidable total lift of 205kg.

Further contributions to Lagos’s medal tally came from Quadri Zainab, who secured a silver medal in the 49kg Women’s category.

In the 55kg Women’s category, Chima Joy Ifeoma added two bronze medals, while Olarinoye Florence earned a silver medal in the 59kg Women’s category.

The men’s team also contributed to the state’s success, with Iwela John claiming a silver medal in the 61kg category.

Emmanuel Tuesday showcased his strength in the 67kg Men’s category, winning a gold medal in the Snatch with a powerful 127kg lift, in addition to a bronze medal in his overall category.

This exceptional showing in weightlifting has significantly boosted Lagos State’s position,which is a testament to their rigorous training and competitive spirit.

They now stand as a perennial strong contender as the festival progresses.
