The final phase of the 2023 Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) gets underway with three games in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State capital on Friday.
The star match of the day between the two teams from Kebbi State was an action-packed one as Kebbi United BSC recorded a 7-6 win over 2021 champions, Kebbi BSC.
The game was witnessed by Kebbi State Governor who was able represented by his deputy, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, Secretary to the State Government, and some newly appointed commissioners.
The debutant raced to a 3-2 lead after the first period thanks to Hassan Abdullahi’s hat-trick.
Kebbi United put the game beyond reasonable doubt with a 7-2 lead after the second period which fueled a need for a comeback from the Kebbi Fishers.
Four goals in the third period weren’t enough as Kebbi United earned a 7-6 win.
The win ended Kebbi BSC six-match unbeaten run and opened up the title challenge.
Earlier, Nmanko Patigi BSC closed the gap at the top of the table to a point after a 4-2 win over Kebbi United in the morning match.
A brace from the league’s top goal scorer, Jamiu Kunle coupled with a goal each from Ogunlana Seun and Bashir Taiwo lifted the Kwara-based side to a win.
Hamza Abubakar and Abdulmajid Maji reduced the deficit for Kebbi United BSC.
Elsewhere, Kada BSC defeated Smart City BSC 3-0.
Matchday eight will take place on Saturday with Matchday nine ending the season as the team with the highest point will be crowned league champions.
