A total of N650 million has been earmarked for the execution of capital projects by the Lagos Island East LCDA in its 2023 appropriation bill with priority on development of infrastructure.
While presenting the proposed budget to the legislative arm of the council recently, the council chairman, Hon. Dr. Muibi Folawiyo, said more infrastructure projects would be executed in 2023 if the budget is passed by the legislators.
While analysing the provision of the budget, Folawiyo explained that the total size of the budget was N3.6 billion (N3,579,097,779.00).
According to him, N51,600,000 is budgeted for Social services and Recurrent, while training of staff and welfare will gulp N28,000,000.
“There is always need to train and retrain a staff no matter how efficient he or she is in the discharge of duties. For the efficient running of the Department,” he said.
Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Department is given N34,000,000 for social service expenditure and recurrent.
For environmental & waste management services, the council will spend N106 million; N132 million is for Agriculture and Social Development; while Primary Health Care Department is to spend N261.3 million in the 1013 fiscal year.
“We intend to improve on the health care delivery of the good people of Lagos Island East. The Construction, rehabilitations and purchase of drugs for the health centre,” the council boss said.
N109.5 million is budgetes for education sector to cater for the construction of schools within the local council, provision of Library equipment and purchase of chairs and tables for schools as well as purchase of JAMB and GCE forms for indigent students.
Political office holders allowance is projected to be N80,000,000.
Speaking, Folawiyo said: “It is my pleasure to welcome you to the presentation of year 2023 budget for Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area tagged Budget of advancement. I want to assure the Legislative Arm that this budget is for the betterment of our community all the projections and estimates were from the outcome of the stakeholders forum.
“We have taken an in-depth study of the needs of our people and we are assuring the good people of Lagos Island East that all their needs will be met.
“We will provide basic amenities and infrastructure to alleviate the sufferings of our people.
“We are aimed at transforming Lagos Island East into a modest Council in our Megacity. We hope to achieve spectacular transformation with the proposed plan if given the needed support for implementation. It is anticipated that year 2023 will record tremendous improvement from the federal allocation and internally generated revenue with the help of the State Government and the support of our people we will become a better community for all.
“We must all try to live as brothers and sisters because where there is peace and harmony, we are sure of having a robust development.”
