14-Year-Old In Court Over Alleged N4M Theft

A 14-year-old girl is facing prosecution over allegations of stealing.

At the Magistrates’ Court in Badagry, the accused (name withheld) was said to have stolen the sum of N4,000,000 which belonged to a complainant – one Hannah Oni.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Adeosun, said that the teenager is facing charges of breach of peace and theft.

She pleaded not guilty.

However, the Prosecutor submitted that the minor commited the offences on January 31, 2024 around 12:00pm at Ajara Tozunkanmeh area in Badagry.

“This is not the first time the defendant will be entering the room of the complainant with a spare key to steal money,” Adeosun said at the sitting.

“On that very day, the teenager was caught inside the house of the complainant stealing money. The defendant was handed over to the police for prosecution.”

According to the Prosecutor, the alleged offences contravene Sections 168 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

Presidng over the matter, Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya granted the accused bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety.

Adekomaiya ordered that the surety must be her father.

The case was adjourned to March 5.
